CENTENARY EXHIBITION INFORMATION

It's now confirmed, our 2012 Centenary Exhibition will be held at the Herbert Art Gallery in Gallery 4 from Saturday 13^th October 2012 to Sunday 4th Novenber with the private view on Friday 12^th October from 6.30 pm – 8 pm.  Drinks and nibbles will be served.   Presentations will be made at the private view, these include the Richard Gill Silver Salver, the Ralph Brassett Trophy, our current Presidents Award and a Young Artists Bursary.  There will also be a prize for the most popular work voted for by the public.

 

 A Time Line of the Society’s history over the past 100 years will be displayed, with a professionally produced catalogue, a continuous video and a super show of paintings and three dimensional pieces.  These will link with a selection of a dozen or so works from the archives of the Herbert, using the walls, plinths, shelves and four large panelogues that the public will be able to walk though (rather like a Barbara Hepworth sculpture).

 

If any member would like to discuss and review any aspect of your current work – recently completed or in preparation for the Centenary Exhibition – then we are planning several review meetings leading up to the exhibition where other experienced members will be on hand to help, make suggestions and provide support wherever it is needed.   It helps, at whatever stage you are at as an artist, to be open to suggestions whether they be adjustments in composition, colour, tone and balance or presentation.  Also we cannot stress enough the importance of good mounting and framing.  That doesn’t mean it has to be expensive, but quality framing always enhances the work. 

 

We are inviting all member artists in the Society to take part and so there will be no submission fee charged, however, the Gallery will charge commission and that should be reflected in your sale price.  Exhibition submission forms will be sent out shortly and are due back ui in May.  We would like each artist member to submit two pieces of work and we are anticipating that at least one piece from each member will be shown.  Selection of work will take place at Leek Wootton Village Hall on Saturday and Sunday 16^th and 17^th June 2012.  Selection is happening so early as we have to fit in with the Herbert’s printing and publicity deadlines.
